MATYÁŠ CHOCHOLA (b. 1986) Graduated from Vladimír Skrepl’s studio at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. He also completed a semester-long residency at Thomas Zipp’s studio at the Universität der Künste in Berlin. In 2012, he was awarded the Václav Chad Prize, and in 2016, he became a laureate of the Jindřich Chalupecký Award. At Manifesta 11 in Zurich, he presented a project created in collaboration with Azem Maksutaj, a multiple world champion in Thai boxing. In 2018, he participated in a three-month residency at the prestigious Residency Unlimited in New York City. He has exhibited his work in numerous institutions across the Czech Republic, as well as in Italy, Germany, and the United Kingdom.

Chochola’s sculptures and installations are characterized by antagonistic forms and the use of unconventional materials. His compositions often incorporate curves and geometric shapes, blending abstract forms with everyday objects to create a harmonious chaos, in which the artist’s own presence is an integral element. His work freely crosses over into public space and architecture..
